How is Turkish School Structure?

Turkish school system offers K-12 education system to students in general. Most schools do have divisions of kindergarten/preschool (age 3 – 6), primary school (grades 1-4), middle school (grades 5-8) and high school (grades 9-12).

What is working conditions like in general?

Teachers are asked to work up 25 – 30 lessons per week in primary, middle school and high school setting. In Kindergarten and Preschools, teachers are considered as kindergarten teachers not English teachers, therefore, there is no class hours in kindergarten setting, teachers are with children 70 – 80 % of the day.

Are assistant teachers available in classrooms?

Most schools have assistant teachers or another Turkish teacher in the classroom in Kindergartens only. Such assistance is not available in primary, middle or high schools.

What are the working days and working hours?

Work days are Monday – Friday and work day is from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, except when there is a meeting which is usually once or twice a week.

Do I have to work on weekends?

No, weekend work is not required by most schools however, parent meetings school events are held on weekends and teachers must attend to such meetings and events. This could be 2 – 4 weekends per semester.
